See I am on the garden committee at work where we grow vegetables to donate to a local charity called UMOM (they are family shelter) and it got me to thinking about growing my own veggies. I don't have much room for a garden but I have heard of people making "patio gardens" and I thought to myself "Why not?!"<br />
Though I don't have much space I figured I could use what I already have in my possession to make a garden work. I looked over to my right where I have stack of empty boxes (don't ask why) and began to wonder if it was possible to turn an empty box filled with soil into a garden. I searched online to see if there was any reason NOT to use a box to grow a garden and found this <a href="http://www.birdsandblooms.com/gardening/gardening-basics/cardboard-gardening/">website</a>. It gave some good suggestions and tips regarding cardboard box usage in gardens and I am glad I found this website because I used it to inspire me to make this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXMlf9nLJVmmcFMRbAooZZ_9Xsh7jiNMd76GaffcYq6lKvhbrtP3QY9XKNUQdmwuRB6J9Rfp5acUPYvdvUMA2s5V5N3mqpV1zjJ8zbuojBdjWkxtp1_RLJ__09aeZKLwqU0QqCXoh6-0-V/s1600/IMG_6967.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXMlf9nLJVmmcFMRbAooZZ_9Xsh7jiNMd76GaffcYq6lKvhbrtP3QY9XKNUQdmwuRB6J9Rfp5acUPYvdvUMA2s5V5N3mqpV1zjJ8zbuojBdjWkxtp1_RLJ__09aeZKLwqU0QqCXoh6-0-V/s1600/IMG_6967.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
How is this a "cardboard garden"? You ask. Well, it is and it was so much fun to make! The wooden box is lined with cardboard and I used two boxes to plant some of the plants I bought that wouldn't fit into the raised garden bed. Here is what they look like: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBmcpb1pKmF58uxeZlH_3Iy9dKsqhMdtpz1mzLm8KNmVRyr4pUBYz3WdxStgFNI7otIqgWCGJ1suvKu9gQclCjtJ878o0cCPQVj4P8UY-tLlXk0Iwxo8vDrMfhx1BLdOxjNAPIVtf5reGd/s1600/IMG_6966.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBmcpb1pKmF58uxeZlH_3Iy9dKsqhMdtpz1mzLm8KNmVRyr4pUBYz3WdxStgFNI7otIqgWCGJ1suvKu9gQclCjtJ878o0cCPQVj4P8UY-tLlXk0Iwxo8vDrMfhx1BLdOxjNAPIVtf5reGd/s1600/IMG_6966.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The box on the top is Bush Beans (which are in the legume family and not allowed on Paleo…guess I wasn't thinking clearly when I bought them) and the box on the bottom has two zucchini plants. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I was at the nursery, I bought what I thought was cucumbers and zucchinis but turns out I bought 7 zucchini plants!!!! Assuming they produce vegetables, I will be swimming in zucchini by the end of summer!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now onto the process for making the Cardboard Garden raised bed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
About seven or eight years ago, while I was living in a different apartment, I went to a local craft store and saw that they had wooden shelves for sale. For years I lugged them around to all my different apartments and used them for craft supply storage but when I moved to my current shoe box (a.k.a. apartment), I had no room for them inside so I put them outside and used it as a holder of junk where they became weathered by rain and plenty of sunshine. When I decided to make the cardboard garden, I looked around for a way to elevate the garden so it wouldn't be on the ground and possibly subjected to Frankie's "business" of lifting his leg or other dog activities. When I looked at my shelves I started to formulate an idea that I think my dad would be very proud of: use what I already have! Talk about reduce, reuse, recycle! All I needed to buy was screws and metal brackets to make my dream a reality. (Sadly, I didn't take pictures at every step of the process but I think you can figure out how the elevated bed came to be.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are some pictures to show the process: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 1: Remove the junk from the shelves: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1JHYGMw_vNWKsUOq1T5TiwrAqkByHoL3DNCsuv-hWV5IoHNgc9dTa-TjDhVl-oLGNaztsCtviwb-C3Tq2Q7Wl_jaiRbXFtCrkCH1k7Sn0XF7tjOsX0Jb5R6Vhmpu3dt7kbmXBZzczEO46/s1600/IMG_6947.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1JHYGMw_vNWKsUOq1T5TiwrAqkByHoL3DNCsuv-hWV5IoHNgc9dTa-TjDhVl-oLGNaztsCtviwb-C3Tq2Q7Wl_jaiRbXFtCrkCH1k7Sn0XF7tjOsX0Jb5R6Vhmpu3dt7kbmXBZzczEO46/s1600/IMG_6947.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 2: Cut each leg just above the bottom shelf to make 2 "stands": </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpDRgmNRvrL-C2wZycVoMkQAq_v5vic5Nc2hHR09nrvwHR6VsvRenbG3VIpdGRPrVP1oWRhOU9iW_HikCKIKNnvhG069VcQtngZ0axa75bnP8BQSljXV_nvqIvgb_4p_8Df_4hpeEO1Ymy/s1600/IMG_6949.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpDRgmNRvrL-C2wZycVoMkQAq_v5vic5Nc2hHR09nrvwHR6VsvRenbG3VIpdGRPrVP1oWRhOU9iW_HikCKIKNnvhG069VcQtngZ0axa75bnP8BQSljXV_nvqIvgb_4p_8Df_4hpeEO1Ymy/s1600/IMG_6949.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">These two "stands" used to be the top of the shelves; they stand about 18 inches tall.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH8a1pi3xCl7Uhg1Vkc1a945LhdskhKyF9U8kXzyIIGAudWpTu8OslKBZEEwS14eIIHt5uDgv0YMw7A8i0GREPzcFwP2N71tUzvmfhv6JSp_tQ8JM4wIoExTQX8vgKjLDPgEXoQbnQ9Wz-/s1600/IMG_6950.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH8a1pi3xCl7Uhg1Vkc1a945LhdskhKyF9U8kXzyIIGAudWpTu8OslKBZEEwS14eIIHt5uDgv0YMw7A8i0GREPzcFwP2N71tUzvmfhv6JSp_tQ8JM4wIoExTQX8vgKjLDPgEXoQbnQ9Wz-/s1600/IMG_6950.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">These two "stands" used to be the bottom of the shelves; they stand about 14 1/2 inches tall. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 2: Attach the taller stands together with metal brackets (No picture, sorry)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 4: Cut the legs of one of the shorter stands down by 5 1/2 inches and then attach the legs end to end with metal brackets to make a cage. (No picture, sorry again)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 5: Place the stand cage on the 18 inch tall stands and attach with metal brackets. (There is a lot of metal holding these rickety shelves together and one day I think the only thing that will be left are those metal pieces!)</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXdU6_J2ELfkqnA09tJWQR_pOY4gYBEGczKrYIc4tYJlXaIkfHfpJsH4PugACioYAl7UHBULwqXYI_KCrQ6GcNN4XK5IXw6GlZkG8tVM8EwRohCondSg0OpTbYKupS6QpOvH-TtSkcUg-L/s1600/IMG_6952.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXdU6_J2ELfkqnA09tJWQR_pOY4gYBEGczKrYIc4tYJlXaIkfHfpJsH4PugACioYAl7UHBULwqXYI_KCrQ6GcNN4XK5IXw6GlZkG8tVM8EwRohCondSg0OpTbYKupS6QpOvH-TtSkcUg-L/s1600/IMG_6952.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">If you notice the metal plates on the side of each leg, that is what I did in step 4. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 6: Place where it will live and line with cardboard (hence Cardboard garden):</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxmMeZhojhETTuWTMj5kW7KyawozNYjWfBeVGDRuoV9JUv-Z7vPkc4Y7Pd7vKxFthk3fMNqeERSESRQIN-UP2dOb8VWpvCwhPABkiWlgmrVXa5PQWqbgPbnhyphenhyphencQpibXJRs7TASg2WA1IGB/s1600/IMG_6961.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxmMeZhojhETTuWTMj5kW7KyawozNYjWfBeVGDRuoV9JUv-Z7vPkc4Y7Pd7vKxFthk3fMNqeERSESRQIN-UP2dOb8VWpvCwhPABkiWlgmrVXa5PQWqbgPbnhyphenhyphencQpibXJRs7TASg2WA1IGB/s1600/IMG_6961.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">According to the website where I read about cardboard gardens, it said that cardboard is a great material to use for gardens because it will allow the water to drain out of the soil and provide a breathable environment for the roots of the plants. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 7: Fill with soil (I bought 2 large bags of organic soil from the nursery around the corner):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEMruTh2CgJjy1wqEzLTNGBIIyFHLSQhvufOdByfJ9hyphenhyphenJctRiMNSQqFvFBQuiHTGUPHx471ybOphnEID0cBPylqk4ff5h0Nl8t0bB-cf4rcgE6nCGwcoVJRIbgd8d4HErjAXP_cQXDWlzl/s1600/IMG_6965.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEMruTh2CgJjy1wqEzLTNGBIIyFHLSQhvufOdByfJ9hyphenhyphenJctRiMNSQqFvFBQuiHTGUPHx471ybOphnEID0cBPylqk4ff5h0Nl8t0bB-cf4rcgE6nCGwcoVJRIbgd8d4HErjAXP_cQXDWlzl/s1600/IMG_6965.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 8: Wet the soil to prepare it for the plants and then place the plants in the desired locations: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheRfNb6mnyNB4I6K_9xHxAEJhDNona-VL5VwS_YJ2hLnC57YHspGdKTG2FOsm3eFO1NKf-9GAV6nbyHn0TvGiInFYh8F0XU6XD6IxnNW7oTog_NJJUf1lqeGyoY_SxSkbZgfVcq8XrXbG2/s1600/IMG_6969.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheRfNb6mnyNB4I6K_9xHxAEJhDNona-VL5VwS_YJ2hLnC57YHspGdKTG2FOsm3eFO1NKf-9GAV6nbyHn0TvGiInFYh8F0XU6XD6IxnNW7oTog_NJJUf1lqeGyoY_SxSkbZgfVcq8XrXbG2/s1600/IMG_6969.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There you have it…my cardboard garden. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What I have planted in this box is Black Beauty Zucchini, Basil, Spaghetti Squash, and Dark Green Zuchinni. (yes, I am insane for having so much zucchini and I will be taking some to work but what can I say? I love zucchini!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will be making signs for each of my plants so I will remember what the heck I planted!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Two more things: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1) There was blood shed (and plenty of sweat) in the production of this box…I thank the stupid palm tree for this unprovoked attack on my innocent pinky: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRQP-DNVvzubi4IG55rAaqrHhTWziaGgjDoLw3nXGib2WUhyphenhyphen4F3btSpvfO1Ryngzn7n27hA7ckKf25243SPf3XRttzr_IRy18APsD_XWehE8WsISmu9u0S69GCJB1rS0ii643Es76nv-Tx/s1600/IMG_6960.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRQP-DNVvzubi4IG55rAaqrHhTWziaGgjDoLw3nXGib2WUhyphenhyphen4F3btSpvfO1Ryngzn7n27hA7ckKf25243SPf3XRttzr_IRy18APsD_XWehE8WsISmu9u0S69GCJB1rS0ii643Es76nv-Tx/s1600/IMG_6960.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2)I can't end this post without mentioning dear Frankie boy who has a very nice shaded hiding spot: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV3EW-E0TFJWwM-hU6mZmGzU7LhUW21eNzZk8iBtXFT88NhnyMP5Vu7TBfRpNF9_ivrGsUCCZ0XoK4SjavEbJ-m-6AB9kpcNcpCqSQDmoMTFI4s7omYI8zOda6jV0HPI-nCde7qAAoiJsC/s1600/IMG_6963.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV3EW-E0TFJWwM-hU6mZmGzU7LhUW21eNzZk8iBtXFT88NhnyMP5Vu7TBfRpNF9_ivrGsUCCZ0XoK4SjavEbJ-m-6AB9kpcNcpCqSQDmoMTFI4s7omYI8zOda6jV0HPI-nCde7qAAoiJsC/s1600/IMG_6963.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oh and that green plan off the right of Frankie? That is the first addition to my garden, the plant that started it all: "Early Girl" Tomatoes! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
YUMMY!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks for stopping by, </div>

But I mentioned in my last blog on Christmas cards that I would show you how I do the "resist technique". So here it is.<br />
<br />
The idea of resist is to keep some parts of the paper the original color while allowing ink or paint to color the other parts of the paper. There are many videos on the internet that you can see the resist technique and mine is not unique but it is how I do most of my resist cards. In this first picture, I used green embossing powder on white watercolor paper. In the pictures below demonstrating the process, I used clear embossing powder on white watercolor paper. Watercolor paper is usually thicker and has a texture to it, compared to card stock. Card stock will work for this technique too but if you add too much water, the card stock warps and is harder to use. The watercolor paper I am using is a 140 lbs paper designed to take a lot of water.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Here's what you'll need: </b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Large background stamp</b> - I am using Hero Arts Leaves, Branches, and Berries</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Watercolor paper or thick card stock</b> - in this case, I chose to make the paper slightly smaller than my card base. The paper is 5" x 4".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Embossing ink pad </b>- I use the VersaMark WaterMark pad</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Embossing Powder</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Ink</b> - I am using Ripe Persimmons and Mowed Lawn Distress Ink from Ranger</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Water sprayer</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Some sort of <b>water resistant sheet </b>to work on</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Step 1: </span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ink up the background stamp of your choice with embossing ink. It is actually a glue not ink.</div>

Place the paper face down on the stamp, making sure not to shift it once it is laid down. </div>

Place a piece of scrap paper over the top and either rub with your hands or take a brayer and roll it over the paper. This will ensure the pattern is stamped all over the paper. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEk0XfXYSR8DTch41m0YDxUgQYj1mPOgV1GuiEeRhleyufvYKdb8iTqzT-rQcHwFWtCUi0PzKdZWtyxFqMTEI_ml2CNkRWqrn0QyKoSV7Wt4rqqnEuXEPnM4gI8xim0jOc1G2cCXwyRwJk/s1600/P1150142.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEk0XfXYSR8DTch41m0YDxUgQYj1mPOgV1GuiEeRhleyufvYKdb8iTqzT-rQcHwFWtCUi0PzKdZWtyxFqMTEI_ml2CNkRWqrn0QyKoSV7Wt4rqqnEuXEPnM4gI8xim0jOc1G2cCXwyRwJk/s1600/P1150142.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Step 3:</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After you remove the paper from the stamp, carefully hold at an angle and pour the embossing powder on the face of the paper. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As you can see in this picture, the powder should only stick to the paper where the glue from the VersaMark pad is. In some cases, you may find that the powder, which is very fine, will stick to the paper in places you don't want it to. To avoid this, you can either rub your paper before hand with a dryer sheet or buy a small cloth pouch that is filled with corn starch from the craft store. Sometimes they are called "Embossing Buddy" but I don't remember what mine is called; it is an off-brand. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibDuPnsmT-PRFPOMuv2jSgYm7WgYk9uKtpgS2iuNF4ptoi0DkNufbIRltQvnoQxp4ahjrx5cCI3c47ab2XVylGmrw-6X3vcpejD5oVzMS13C5XgA7gZf-gv-EZDnKV4yv1gXag1mYQfMU9/s1600/P1150143.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibDuPnsmT-PRFPOMuv2jSgYm7WgYk9uKtpgS2iuNF4ptoi0DkNufbIRltQvnoQxp4ahjrx5cCI3c47ab2XVylGmrw-6X3vcpejD5oVzMS13C5XgA7gZf-gv-EZDnKV4yv1gXag1mYQfMU9/s1600/P1150143.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Step 4:</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Tap off any excess embossing powder and place on a scrap piece of paper. I usually hold the paper up off the table but couldn't in the picture because I have only two hands. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Move the HeatIT Craft Tool around the paper so you aren't concentrating only one spot. If you heat it too much, the paper will start to burn. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once you see all the powder has melted and is now shiny, you are done heating it. Set aside for a moment to cool. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5uK1YUDfcVGjZFQrjQwtR9hOuTRt0c8WSfFTNRfiaXL5uMYoBt6How12K7b6JKPkfGFUIzXhwAUT9UUEygGdXYshUvODPO2DHOQQav7J1cKAZRHX73-4PcSxyO5nB33umPQZd1KzVLKaU/s1600/P1150148.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5uK1YUDfcVGjZFQrjQwtR9hOuTRt0c8WSfFTNRfiaXL5uMYoBt6How12K7b6JKPkfGFUIzXhwAUT9UUEygGdXYshUvODPO2DHOQQav7J1cKAZRHX73-4PcSxyO5nB33umPQZd1KzVLKaU/s1600/P1150148.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Step 5:</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With the ink pad, tap it on the waterproof sheet 2-3 times to get some ink on the mat. If you are making more than one card at a time, you can add more ink to mat. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Spray the ink on the mat with 3-4 sprites from your mister. Don't add too much water, just enough to see it start to bead up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Step 6:</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Place your watercolor paper embossed side down, covering as much or as little as you wish. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In this case, I only wanted one side to have the solid green on it so I laid it down, picked it up, then laid it down in a few more small places. </div>

<span style="text-align: center;">You will also want to know your color combinations because the distress inks are "reactivated" once they get wet so even though I dried the green completely, when I added the red next, the area where the colors mixed turned slightly brown. </span>If you don't want that brown color, you will need to use only one color ink for this technique or chose colors that make a nice color when mixed, like blue and yellow makes green. (In the picture on the right, there is a tag that has the red and green ink as well. I used that tag to pick up the rest of the ink off the sheet so nothing would go to waste. </div>

Once the paper is completely dry, you can wrap vellum about a half inch up from the bottom and adhere with tape on the back. Then adhere to the card base with quarter inch boarder on each side. </div>

Now that I have completed all my Christmas cards for this year, most of them mailed AFTER Christmas, I thought I would write about the cards I made and maybe even show a few "trade" secrets. Here are the three basic cards I made.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2SyjCPidQunFpHLVNpH8EAACKwJDxpwOM2TvQqjvO7gR4BAaWPJ_RZHGQ2_X96o8VgJGLf780VreEEtejo29cKaHLoOFZGT0aj09mqW4EMoAG0Vm4s9kKfBCG-JAo2uyBG-JqQSq90Dsu/s1600/IMG_6050.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2SyjCPidQunFpHLVNpH8EAACKwJDxpwOM2TvQqjvO7gR4BAaWPJ_RZHGQ2_X96o8VgJGLf780VreEEtejo29cKaHLoOFZGT0aj09mqW4EMoAG0Vm4s9kKfBCG-JAo2uyBG-JqQSq90Dsu/s1600/IMG_6050.jpg" height="320" width="270" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one used a large background stamp from Hero Arts called <a href="http://shop.heroarts.com/p/bg-leaves-berries-branches/shop-by-catalog_handmade-for-christmas-2014_basicgrey?pp=12">Leaves, Berries, & Branches</a>. I used <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Tsukineko-Full-Size-VersaMark-Pigment-Inkpad/dp/B001DKMBTO">VersaMark Watermark Stamp pad</a> (from Tsukinedo, Inc) and Stampendous! Embossing Power in White, on black paper to make the beautiful background. Then I used the <a href="http://spellbinderspaperarts.com/products/p-1636-holiday-sentiments.aspx">SpellBinders Holiday</a> words to die cut "Merry Christmas" in shiny red paper. I used the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Xyron-Create---Sticker-Machine-Assorted/dp/B0001DU6RS/ref=sr_1_19?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419995695&sr=1-19&keywords=xyron+refills">Xyron 1.5" Create-A-Stamp maker</a> to attach the words to the vellum. The vellum is attached to the paper using the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Attacher-Idea-ology-Includes-Staples-TH92800/dp/B0021G0GPK/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419995766&sr=1-1&keywords=tim+holtz+tiny+attacher">Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher</a>. I made several various of this card using water color paper and the "resist" technique. I will explain about that later post. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYjqs4C51GLrkRjp0FZpDF80uxQEzaQ7e2i62mWntDD2qV63Mx3BwtuVW-jD8AvNcGCd_N0q_niOfGbumxEi1sV6J7wUoqNw97eC64l9VgdiWzUlAkQ2P5bwG074244qkpCzDZPqocavwO/s1600/IMG_6059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYjqs4C51GLrkRjp0FZpDF80uxQEzaQ7e2i62mWntDD2qV63Mx3BwtuVW-jD8AvNcGCd_N0q_niOfGbumxEi1sV6J7wUoqNw97eC64l9VgdiWzUlAkQ2P5bwG074244qkpCzDZPqocavwO/s1600/IMG_6059.jpg" height="320" width="261" /></a></div>
For this card, I used the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Paper-Smooches-NOD179-Squared-Die/dp/B00QY1MO4O/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419996089&sr=1-1&keywords=paper+smooches+squared+die">Paper Smooches "Squared" die</a> to make the background. (For all the die cuts, I used my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Cuttlebug-2002298-Cricut-Machine-Blue/dp/B00F9F7V4O/ref=sr_1_2?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419996012&sr=1-2&keywords=cuddlebug">Cuddlebug by Cricut</a>. I broke the new machine I bought in June so I had to go back to my old machine I have had for 5 years.) The swirly Christmas tree is the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Penny-Black-Creative-Dies-Twirl/dp/B00P9FFH6I/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419996166&sr=1-1&keywords=penny+black+twirl+tree">Penny Black Twirl Tree die</a>. For the different card variations, I used both solid papers, like this one, and patterned papers. I think in the end, I like the solid paper over the pattered paper…especially when you add the tree on top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This style card was my absolute favorite! The beautiful snowflake was a die from Penny Black called <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Penny-Black-Creative-Dies-Stellar/dp/B00P9FFBI2/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419996671&sr=1-1&keywords=penny+black+stellar">Stellar</a>. It turned out beautiful with the shiny paper, as shown here. But I also used regular white & black cardstock from the local department store and that turned out really nice too. One thing I decided I really liked to do was take my VersaMark Watermark stamp pad, cover this snowflake was (this is glue like product you can use to make a watermark on paper or use for adding embossing powder to give it a nice shiny look), and apply either white or transparent powder. That turns any ordinary, mat paper, into a nice shiny surface. There are some pictures of that too. Once I learned how to use this wafer-thin die properly (lots of paper went directly into the trash, lost as casualties, before I finally worked out the cutting process), this because the simplest and most elegant card to make. I used <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Judikins-DG2-Diamond-Glaze-2oz/dp/B0041LMNTU/ref=sr_1_4?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419996728&sr=1-4&keywords=judikins+diamond+glaze">JudiKins Diamond Glaze</a> to attach the delicate die to the background paper. In most cases I used a solid paper but in some cards, see below, I used simple pattered paper.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For these three cards, I first stamped the watercolor paper with VersaMark Watermark Stamp Pad and covered the paper with embossing powder. I heated it up with my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Ranger-Heat-It-Craft-Tool/dp/B00083OZQY/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419997384&sr=1-1&keywords=heat+it+craft+tool">Ranger Heat It Craft Tool</a> and once melted it becomes resistant to inks or watercolor, hence "resist technique". For each of these cards, I used various Tim Holtz Distress Inks. The red color is "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Ranger-Holtz-Distress-Ripe-Persimmon/dp/B009RZPUS6/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419997452&sr=1-1&keywords=distress+ink+ripe+persimmons">Ripe Persimmons</a>", the blue was "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Ranger-DIS-27119-Distress-Chipped-Sapphire/dp/B0038QH9N4/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419997486&sr=1-1&keywords=distress+ink+chipped+sapphire">Chipped Sapphire</a>" and the aqua color was "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Ranger-Holtz-Distress-Peacock-Feathers/dp/B009SC7VBC/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1419997526&sr=1-1&keywords=distress+ink+peacock+feathers">Peacock Feathers</a>". They are all beautiful colors and easy to use. </div>

Here are some variations of the "squared" cards I made. For the card on the left, I took watercolor paper and painted the colors using my watercolor set. The Christmas tree stamp is from <a href="http://stores.purpleoniondesigns.com/stacey-yacula-studio-christmas-tree/">Stacey Yacula Studio through Purple Onion Designs</a>. The card on the right is basic white, green, red, and yellow paper and the sentiment, from Hero Arts, called<a href="http://www.heroarts.com/products/productInfo.cfm?ItemNo=CL460&subCat=H01"> Joy To All</a>, is stamped on vellum.<br />

Now on to my favorite cards. The Stellar die from Penny Black is fantastic! It is details and once I learned how to use it in my Cuddlebug, I could crank one out in a very short time. If you want some direction on how to use wafer thin dies in a Cuddlebug, you can search Youtube for videos; I found that very helpful. I won't go into too much detail here about it, it would take way too long. I will tell you that there are two tips I found very useful: 1)place the die cut side up, not down; 2)either rub the cut side of the die with wax paper or place a piece of wax paper between the die and the paper you are cutting. It makes it a lot easier for the paper to release from the die.<br />

This is probably the longest post I have ever written for Emma Squared Designs so I hope you made it this far. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.<br />
<br />
Also, I have one more tip for everyone: START MAKING YOUR CHRISTMAS CARDS IN JULY! I should have known better but I made over 100 cards starting December 17th! Yes, I am that person...The final card was made on December 29th and mailed on December 31st. So learn from my example!<br />
<br />
Emma #1Emma Squared Designshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06959390876463079625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1420300301433713340.post-7220742565344486032014-08-04T20:43:00.000-07:002014-08-04T20:43:38.230-07:00Gift Ideas...So the other day I was sitting at Chipotle with my family, took a drink out of the cup, and had an epiphany: make a journal out of the cup!<br />
This is how my mind works. I don't always understand it but I go with it when it happens.<br />
So to further my craft making skills, I turned a cup into a journal:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMuRXiAPUE4EqfH4NclUJpCKyq1sp-dG2t54bxOuz3lQ7iL6JTVTo1bOAqzrRrFs8Lwt0P2YObr0MGFJa1qY5qDRS-aF7E2VlpVdbyraPed0efuDJ-FGrvtphQ9J5_iFL6MZjpYBGzwQI5/s1600/IMG_4016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMuRXiAPUE4EqfH4NclUJpCKyq1sp-dG2t54bxOuz3lQ7iL6JTVTo1bOAqzrRrFs8Lwt0P2YObr0MGFJa1qY5qDRS-aF7E2VlpVdbyraPed0efuDJ-FGrvtphQ9J5_iFL6MZjpYBGzwQI5/s1600/IMG_4016.jpg" height="320" width="219" /></a></div>
It may not look like much in a picture but I think it turned out great! The large cups from Chipotle are perfect for something like this because they have different sayings on them and they are rather entertaining.<br />
The journals turn out to be 1/4 inch thick and I found that a total of 30 sheets of paper to make 60 pages (front and back) was just right. I sew the pages into the cup with waxed dental floss…mint flavor!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaBJtcCsu__9qyNg17Oj6Qe_3VKGrwEUKr2dhhPQJDRCNZTH0Np3cs943B3l6vgPnYsxYUnzxfxQuciZJb6c5R3N0AbBpjqauZFMLdhKK_Yb2tfGaMm1wiQwieKczf8Vew235_-ghU63P6/s1600/IMG_4022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaBJtcCsu__9qyNg17Oj6Qe_3VKGrwEUKr2dhhPQJDRCNZTH0Np3cs943B3l6vgPnYsxYUnzxfxQuciZJb6c5R3N0AbBpjqauZFMLdhKK_Yb2tfGaMm1wiQwieKczf8Vew235_-ghU63P6/s1600/IMG_4022.jpg" height="320" width="203" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ13jcGb8MO18imH_R61y_wC6pI8ox2jDiUvz4NCYvTf4yJBx2UHpAILmxPZwmH1Yph7J3NxixsvyLtoH7vxU6TckENN1kKktliAWghVwOkMOQ4ws4uLnYWeEK0uN1Nt6Sxcso3UNEpqem/s1600/IMG_4023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ13jcGb8MO18imH_R61y_wC6pI8ox2jDiUvz4NCYvTf4yJBx2UHpAILmxPZwmH1Yph7J3NxixsvyLtoH7vxU6TckENN1kKktliAWghVwOkMOQ4ws4uLnYWeEK0uN1Nt6Sxcso3UNEpqem/s1600/IMG_4023.jpg" height="320" width="271" /></a></div>
Here a journal made out of a Starbucks cup and sleeve. I found the sleeve is a great addition. At first I was going to cut the sleeve open and glue it to the cup so it was permanent but in the end, it works great to keep the journal closed!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic_aALTi_XE8zWlQXzwYfjxMmAFkUL8tscG3VDLM3rZa8lriunmw9Q66h-ftps6MMdZbAOi3K9vsB8WsYoyv9yZ6CM_h9CvDcC_ozNxO8M8Wz0GHxKQCSkxt_r_K2Tt5IyMVfFHn41y8Be/s1600/IMG_4025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic_aALTi_XE8zWlQXzwYfjxMmAFkUL8tscG3VDLM3rZa8lriunmw9Q66h-ftps6MMdZbAOi3K9vsB8WsYoyv9yZ6CM_h9CvDcC_ozNxO8M8Wz0GHxKQCSkxt_r_K2Tt5IyMVfFHn41y8Be/s1600/IMG_4025.JPG" height="244" width="320" /></a></div>
I have also made journals out of pint sized ice cream containers and a large ice cream container. The large ice cream container is actually a water color journal for a friend; the pages are made from watercolor paper.<br />
I think this combines my creativity and use of items that would otherwise end up in the landfill…SCORE!<br />
If you decide to make a journal or two, post a picture in comments.<br />

</div>
A while ago, a friend of mine who works with a great organization called <a href="http://www.philsfriends.org/">Phil's Friends</a>, offered me the opportunity to make cards to send to people fighting cancer. When I agreed to send a card weekly to people I have never met, I decided I had to make something special. I had just learned a few doodling techniques from a creative artist and fellow crafter, <a href="http://www.dyan-reaveley.blogspot.com/">Dyan Reaveley</a>, and thought I would use that new doodling to make a set of cards. On each card, I also added a bible verse then mailed one each week for four weeks. I called the cards my puzzle cards. They were fun to make and I hope the recipients were happy with them (I made two sets of cards).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij7HVswvIFWSBRPg417aEmuuVYK70slKMqZ5edfGPQmUck6Rr_gBWk28ZaxsjfxgRPJjj8fcRZirfO0sko1ncRX3vaMxL2hvI3RCMwqhTKDDk9SH5gK1h5tFX-MJx_-QKF_jw9xdA5PgNN/s1600/P1130839.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij7HVswvIFWSBRPg417aEmuuVYK70slKMqZ5edfGPQmUck6Rr_gBWk28ZaxsjfxgRPJjj8fcRZirfO0sko1ncRX3vaMxL2hvI3RCMwqhTKDDk9SH5gK1h5tFX-MJx_-QKF_jw9xdA5PgNN/s1600/P1130839.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the first step: to draw the designs then color them in. On this card, I actually used my nifty water color set and even though the paper was just basic card stock paper from Wal-Mart, it didn't warp that much at all! I think it turned out really nice. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2TjK_M4vlW4YNefuI45DUeEfuqkwt2n9477asl03EbPNvuTEYKnmPHScAGmszg5eq6qKbnHf2_HxwC6Wrlw6IwrMd04Cums6_NRhAalmzrpNob0R4v9-F2AaJ9cPqdPtddv_5DnUn3Ggc/s1600/P1130840.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2TjK_M4vlW4YNefuI45DUeEfuqkwt2n9477asl03EbPNvuTEYKnmPHScAGmszg5eq6qKbnHf2_HxwC6Wrlw6IwrMd04Cums6_NRhAalmzrpNob0R4v9-F2AaJ9cPqdPtddv_5DnUn3Ggc/s1600/P1130840.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next I cut the 8 1/2 x 11 paper into quarters. This makes each piece 5 1/2 x 4 1/4. This is the size of a standard card. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmnorlqgFJP_JUp_m9qC4j_BjPHKVb57C75P4iKb9HWcVamGU6FNjqOFYPZO5h3aMOxA9gGtJHs2qgVZMhwGEEKSr-hSwZwNSjy_asSou1RBqkEV1Uu-ROx2eFaBr1iz438DscMpatrAI6/s1600/P1130841.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmnorlqgFJP_JUp_m9qC4j_BjPHKVb57C75P4iKb9HWcVamGU6FNjqOFYPZO5h3aMOxA9gGtJHs2qgVZMhwGEEKSr-hSwZwNSjy_asSou1RBqkEV1Uu-ROx2eFaBr1iz438DscMpatrAI6/s1600/P1130841.JPG" height="150" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I added the bible verses and adhered each piece onto a standard white card. Easy, right? Well, a little time consuming but I think it was totally worth it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

A lot of crafters (a.k.a. artists) are making "mixed media" wall hangings. I don't know the official definition of "mixed media" but from what I have seen it means to use lots of different materials that wouldn't normally be used together to make a project. For example, use paint, paper, stickers, stencils, tissue paper, and Mod Podge. I have been making wall hangings that have a message. Not just nice words but meaningful words. I have been putting inspirational bible verses on many of my wall hangings lately and thought I would show you. Each of the canvases has 2 coats of matte <a href="http://www.simonsaysstamp.com/servlet/the-21345/mod-podge-modge-glue/Detail">Mod Podge</a> to protect it from the elements. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9JN5saLkuI8b7ltrEAOf74fLAM5jIxZu9sr-pUIdNJiLgSZ_YBQL8cKDJ_lu6GSMKeqIE_qRRvlqDHgSMtzB_mEmCY_TBq2tYiCOg0GQEX0E27NFpJLfF0Mei5WQJGWMWpOfphGVgGBOR/s1600/IMG_0693.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9JN5saLkuI8b7ltrEAOf74fLAM5jIxZu9sr-pUIdNJiLgSZ_YBQL8cKDJ_lu6GSMKeqIE_qRRvlqDHgSMtzB_mEmCY_TBq2tYiCOg0GQEX0E27NFpJLfF0Mei5WQJGWMWpOfphGVgGBOR/s320/IMG_0693.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This a 10 in x 10 in deep wrapped canvas. I believe I used brown tissue paper for texture, while paint as the bottom coat. For the top coat, I used the <a href="http://www.simonsaysstamp.com/servlet/the-11404/ranger-adirondack-acrylic-paint/Detail">Adirondack Brights Acrylic paint in POOL color</a>. The Instagram filter I used made the color look darker blue. One of my favorite verses. My grandma (posted about previously) had horrible twisted feet from arthritis and couldn't wash her feet herself. When I would visit her, I would wash her feet. So this verse is of particular importance to me. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8m5NBlX-BNIocBH03UDn1x1l1kjOR2Iukb6qlhWEb0zJmgv30-Z7POpikfCcGfaEY5V3fDgJQpbr4T-Ofj6OJzGJ3gwQGPr06MFZWEGlD3OxfsHNJoRYd3IzQVuLWf9mBuy1prSiymgOF/s1600/IMG_0695.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8m5NBlX-BNIocBH03UDn1x1l1kjOR2Iukb6qlhWEb0zJmgv30-Z7POpikfCcGfaEY5V3fDgJQpbr4T-Ofj6OJzGJ3gwQGPr06MFZWEGlD3OxfsHNJoRYd3IzQVuLWf9mBuy1prSiymgOF/s320/IMG_0695.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For this canvas, I used a brown tissue paper for texture then I used a purple paint and a <a href="http://www.heidiswapp.com/items/6-x-6-honeycomb-stencil/">Heidi Swapp Hexagon stencil</a> for interest. This canvas is 12 in x 12 in about 1 inch deep. All the rest of the canvases are this size as well. I have lots of letter stickers so spelled out the words I wanted to Romans 12:2a then blotted an orange and white paint on top. Once the letters were fully covered, I pulled them off to reveal the purple paint underneath. I like this because of the different font stickers I used. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgehxmTn9oIc1TFunEQQf3_MHN4r89A6uIYPNYXW-rEY2Pk9Pj8IgiGxkRJY1T40TvBs-6p6x3PRP1om-cHXRLhXSz_KVqDYriuj8eUc_xUt7rrvae-mYooIvVTccwbZufztyyJil_FX3m/s1600/IMG_0694.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgehxmTn9oIc1TFunEQQf3_MHN4r89A6uIYPNYXW-rEY2Pk9Pj8IgiGxkRJY1T40TvBs-6p6x3PRP1om-cHXRLhXSz_KVqDYriuj8eUc_xUt7rrvae-mYooIvVTccwbZufztyyJil_FX3m/s320/IMG_0694.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was actually the first bible verse canvas I made. It has white tissue paper for texture, blue/white paint for the base coat. Then I used stickers to spell out what I wanted it to (one of my favorite bible verses for when I am anxious or nervous). I used a gray color paint on top and pulled off the stickers. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSyZ34YzGR3_F_IrRlOiMP0oH3ckl6XGk0_7bNnk4SbXho-UwzwierRCdsBVUU185-E919CRXDMBhCod03-udI1UgdyizHhWtJB69HEIJ_PbvNmNucTLP089qttQZXwMXxbVi48TiW9nbC/s1600/IMG_0819.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSyZ34YzGR3_F_IrRlOiMP0oH3ckl6XGk0_7bNnk4SbXho-UwzwierRCdsBVUU185-E919CRXDMBhCod03-udI1UgdyizHhWtJB69HEIJ_PbvNmNucTLP089qttQZXwMXxbVi48TiW9nbC/s320/IMG_0819.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my most recent canvas. To be honest, it doesn't really fit in with the other canvases. With the ones pictured above, I applied stickers, painted over them and pulled the stickers off to reveal the colors underneath. When I made this canvas, I used tissue paper, black paint, gray paint, and one <a href="http://www.simonsaysstamp.com/servlet/the-44067/00699-she-art-christy/Detail">Christy Tomlinson's She Art Vintage Doily stencil</a>. Once I placed the white letter stickers on top, it just looked RIGHT. For those of you who are spell checking, there is a mistake in the spelling of one of the words. I know what it is, you don't need to point it out to me. In my defense I was spelling backwards and from the bottom to get the look of the right alignment that I wanted.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3fIWOdKbojeAEePi3GFcLgSgKT29RRMO9rqq1qXLqTg9W6KxK5QTM726YQDTjo3e-Xvuj149Q7R6CrZX-nJqqFnVT0EarleDcOGRDjQWsJFp52oXs2l0lG54jhcJL7enVyj1Q808whPf8/s1600/IMG_0698.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3fIWOdKbojeAEePi3GFcLgSgKT29RRMO9rqq1qXLqTg9W6KxK5QTM726YQDTjo3e-Xvuj149Q7R6CrZX-nJqqFnVT0EarleDcOGRDjQWsJFp52oXs2l0lG54jhcJL7enVyj1Q808whPf8/s320/IMG_0698.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one was a super fun mixed media canvas to make. It was time consuming in the respect that I wanted to make it perfect so I made it over several weeks. The camera in the middle is a die-cut I made. I sketched a picture of a camera I found online, transferred it to a piece of thick water color paper, then painted it in. The letters, from We R Memory Keepers chipboard alphabet stickers "For the Record" series in this nice off white color. I think it turned out super duper nice. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made this canvas for my cousin, <a href="http://jennwiemann.com/">Jenn Wiemann</a>. She is starting a photography business and a new mom so it just made sense that I would make this for her. To be honest, I did not come up with this all on my own. I check out a lot of craft blogs and one of the many blogs I was looking at one day, I found a really great picture frame wall art with this same idea. If I can find the blog online again, I will post the link here. </div>

<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
Hi everyone (or my one follower),<br />
It has been a LONG time since I posted and that is for many reasons including but not limited to: I ran out of photo memory available on my blog. I had to delete a bunch of pictures and didn't do it until now. So I made the decision to finally delete the photos I had in memory from my first trip to Israel. I deleted them because 1)I wasn't posting them on this blog and 2)I will be going back to Israel and taking a ton more pictures!<br />
Now on to the photo album with a twist:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzS2xXLi0zrM8mfMIYyCcfEetfNH-1UYiQqPD9pYF20NmKUoj65qlkNi49CMTluaBrsrVVTzBdjgMObWqWGeNwwcFiETvYBUZeaGf6C2lHtT2CmSOh4Ztl4I8uCKhGZhAqy4GBEnlFvwFu/s1600/P1120027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzS2xXLi0zrM8mfMIYyCcfEetfNH-1UYiQqPD9pYF20NmKUoj65qlkNi49CMTluaBrsrVVTzBdjgMObWqWGeNwwcFiETvYBUZeaGf6C2lHtT2CmSOh4Ztl4I8uCKhGZhAqy4GBEnlFvwFu/s320/P1120027.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It looks normal, I understand, but it's not. You know those "photo albums" that you buy at any store for a couple of dollars and it holds 24 to 36 photos. I cut the covers (front and back) off, made my own cover (see above) and sewed the photo sleeves into the book. Here's some more pictures to give you a better idea of what I did:</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPjojBlYxs173kJSi3qesLR96UZ8nZ4rVh5C5Ge4U52S9W0RVLW8s8UiXBWMF7jXErl3uA59k-3iFG-piiq2R_CO7FO4N7CkESIOpvGvWcNh6ZAEtst3wHGNk26ADUcjhSF_U3wDY63GXY/s1600/P1110762.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPjojBlYxs173kJSi3qesLR96UZ8nZ4rVh5C5Ge4U52S9W0RVLW8s8UiXBWMF7jXErl3uA59k-3iFG-piiq2R_CO7FO4N7CkESIOpvGvWcNh6ZAEtst3wHGNk26ADUcjhSF_U3wDY63GXY/s200/P1110762.JPG" width="200" /></a>First, on my craft sheet, I rubbed six different colors of Tim Holtz Distressed Ink (colors were, left to right, Vintage Photo, Mustard Seed, Peeled Paint, Spiced Marmalade, Stormy Sky, and Bard Door), then I sprayed the ink with water. (Before doing this, I cut water color paper to the desired size and stray with water.) Next, I played the slightly wet water color paper face down on the row of color and let it sit for a few seconds. When I pulled it up, it looked like this: </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZxoz-bwgDPy8ZCDcyJ6a9VJFEAD9N9POoVGOW3c3HoMTHnl2CGhg90wZST2kd9wMfq9qaVUOWGRILi3_dPOV7p74ved9dpDPLag1FIVijipBiyfkvQV1WxPhZ-LoM-igUn8s9wcA5p9N5/s1600/P1110764.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZxoz-bwgDPy8ZCDcyJ6a9VJFEAD9N9POoVGOW3c3HoMTHnl2CGhg90wZST2kd9wMfq9qaVUOWGRILi3_dPOV7p74ved9dpDPLag1FIVijipBiyfkvQV1WxPhZ-LoM-igUn8s9wcA5p9N5/s200/P1110764.JPG" width="200" /></a>Once it dried, I cut chip board in three pieces to make the front, spine, and back of the album and glued it on the "wrong" side of the water color paper. (For the inspiration and directions on how to make a book cover like I did, you can check out <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGEVG27Z1V0">Tricia Morris of Club Scrap</a> video.) </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhIbWrkxqpxC0ttK2U_nl7XKOs9fFYNMEGVUFmfWiURKKQtyARFo_puH7pYu3U1btXvYqEcukwg1EYBeOuZe-wz_BoYuNnpR4BPjjUcUkn1NFqi5Ji3Qf7XXfoI-Ss5aWLykIYgU0PuNFb/s1600/P1120031.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhIbWrkxqpxC0ttK2U_nl7XKOs9fFYNMEGVUFmfWiURKKQtyARFo_puH7pYu3U1btXvYqEcukwg1EYBeOuZe-wz_BoYuNnpR4BPjjUcUkn1NFqi5Ji3Qf7XXfoI-Ss5aWLykIYgU0PuNFb/s200/P1120031.jpg" width="150" /></a>I didn't take pictures of the cover I made before sewing in the pages so here is a picture of the spine with the stitches. If you notice, the cover is shiny rather than dull. I coated it with Krylon Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze. I used it first when I painted mason jars and wanted to be able to use the glass jar without the paint scratching off. I think I sprayed the book with three or four layers of the glaze, letting it dry each time between layers. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzt5IlDCSYZmLqPxeUcZ8Vdhl6QFOY71ZK0biHfOQmGau18l82-A2xopoc207qgdvTVerTEj9aTlBTeKFyyieumWDxGjf0FNdtWcT8MpMcHMoq2ybJucGc-FKXvCkeWrXx0VJ4IuHlDjha/s1600/P1120037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzt5IlDCSYZmLqPxeUcZ8Vdhl6QFOY71ZK0biHfOQmGau18l82-A2xopoc207qgdvTVerTEj9aTlBTeKFyyieumWDxGjf0FNdtWcT8MpMcHMoq2ybJucGc-FKXvCkeWrXx0VJ4IuHlDjha/s320/P1120037.JPG" width="320" /></a>Now on to the cool cut-out on the cover (seen in the next picture on the lower right side of the picture), it is from Paper Smooches <a href="http://www.papersmoochesstamps.com/I_Heart_Art_p/fbs-13-137.htm"><u>I heart art</u> stamp set</a>. I used heat embossing and Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen Big Brush markers to color it in. </div>

This is what the inside pages look like. I used waxed linen thread and I like how it looks on the spine.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
So there you have it, a post of a photo album I made. I have done several of them in the last year and those who have received them as presents really liked them. I made one for my grandparents for Christmas and said "When it is full, let me know and I will make another one for you." and they took it to heart! I have made two for them and will probably have to make another by the fall. I don't mind. They are super fun to make and quite easy.<br />
Thanks for stopping by.<br />

****This post was originally written over 3 weeks ago. When I wrote it, I still had my big, beautiful, comfy chair...covered by a sheet and hidden under a ton of stuff. I have since SOLD the chair!!!******<br />
<br />
My apartment is small, about 450 square feet. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am a pack rat. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Do I need to say more? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I am trying to downsize. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In my quest for making my apartment more livable, I have decided to sell a few things. I had a yard sale in July that netted a whole $25...loser of a sale.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Part of my quest involves getting things to make my apartment a little less...well, better organized. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first step in organizing is my crafts: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These colorful baskets were 69 cents each at GoodWill and a little bit of spray paint and voila!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1y9Xd0hyphenhyphen0XgHrI7bj4jz5RWRBKkxH2gDOd_eq9HK5lWwPiMsbjVGXo0YEudoQqB8O9ENN5K9hVs0mgxu2fRF_jYrU0tkLv-UI6V6-xubiCoxr84Vun9vm3fgdQMZduQn8fT3WHmRvly7L/s1600/P1100299.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1y9Xd0hyphenhyphen0XgHrI7bj4jz5RWRBKkxH2gDOd_eq9HK5lWwPiMsbjVGXo0YEudoQqB8O9ENN5K9hVs0mgxu2fRF_jYrU0tkLv-UI6V6-xubiCoxr84Vun9vm3fgdQMZduQn8fT3WHmRvly7L/s320/P1100299.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The red basket was a little more expensive at 79 cents...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOjds3EGitdy_T7dk1_8Sh9Wsy9GzWDk2tedzMNj5gkTU24iYCNyHt3vwxevywMo23l-QF7ThIBcsrqHywpQy8bOZKEchQcrI_wtSEShcvUMK59OsJ3SkOXZhncTy1ohSUyMmmA3qLCM_W/s1600/P1100298.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOjds3EGitdy_T7dk1_8Sh9Wsy9GzWDk2tedzMNj5gkTU24iYCNyHt3vwxevywMo23l-QF7ThIBcsrqHywpQy8bOZKEchQcrI_wtSEShcvUMK59OsJ3SkOXZhncTy1ohSUyMmmA3qLCM_W/s320/P1100298.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Though it looks like I am making small changes in my quest for organization, every little bit counts. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So if you have some suggestions on how to organize a little better for SMALL spaces, let me know. I could use all I can get!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thanks...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Hi Everyone (my one follower really...)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am sorry I have been away so long. I have been busy doing all sorts of things like organizing my apartment, studying for a big test, making crafts, failing that big test, and making more crafts. Exciting stuff. If you were all here! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have some pictures for you. These pictures are of my new table project. My brother had a table from somewhere that is very sturdy and the perfect size for a small place. My mom has had it for the last couple of years and then finally gave it to me. I have been following a couple of blogs about home improvement type projects and was inspired! See <a href="http://www.littlehouseinthebigd.com/">HERE</a> and <a href="http://ana-white.com/">HERE</a> for some of my inspiration. These two ladies of the blog world are really talented! I am so thankful I stumbled on the blogs. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is what it looked like when I started. (see Frankie under the table? He is clean cut - looks like a little professor. What a cutie!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwa9LvI8fYbJEUCmMHoo6TKxI_CJdLFi_ec0RQIonFgrMWKWHhHc382aM3YsdqFJKifFw6G_G6D_Y2vAdV6v174vzaPGgpA_33G_KQpNMViAFR9HgQX3DkqTheOyGCz7DerMEvTH-5jS6f/s1600/P1100723.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwa9LvI8fYbJEUCmMHoo6TKxI_CJdLFi_ec0RQIonFgrMWKWHhHc382aM3YsdqFJKifFw6G_G6D_Y2vAdV6v174vzaPGgpA_33G_KQpNMViAFR9HgQX3DkqTheOyGCz7DerMEvTH-5jS6f/s320/P1100723.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is what the table looked like after I "sanded" it. Most of the original top peeled off years ago so it has had a rough top for a while.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh75O86ZvIeJkWbtK8LbeQyWf8i5t-_21KCfEJEE5fKq33fMj53gIuY8xpqa2J3xUSJWXNntCgmTNev3RgS9E2uqnjdN2Odd8Jw4QfBco2o6CXGuo2UUMrMOploNKs02jC4SiG8cvIaSXU0/s1600/P1100726.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh75O86ZvIeJkWbtK8LbeQyWf8i5t-_21KCfEJEE5fKq33fMj53gIuY8xpqa2J3xUSJWXNntCgmTNev3RgS9E2uqnjdN2Odd8Jw4QfBco2o6CXGuo2UUMrMOploNKs02jC4SiG8cvIaSXU0/s320/P1100726.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was the first attempt at creating a top worthy of my craft table. I bought a pack of pattern paper at Michael's for ONE CENT...You read that right! One center, it was on deep discount. the paper was too thick and rather clumsy. I ended up pulling it off because it just wasn't going to work. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfQu0T_X4-l3KKwrV63sTJJCb2ENsgZwXQFusHgPgaZYB89b-Vlt8XK9yh_KM5QmutTnPVYLT61uSINEh1qliYM_IUtfIn7WCejPapoZRSu7d_Z9p_dMIpQn4xtA_Kv22gJNN-ZzS-caEj/s1600/P1100746.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfQu0T_X4-l3KKwrV63sTJJCb2ENsgZwXQFusHgPgaZYB89b-Vlt8XK9yh_KM5QmutTnPVYLT61uSINEh1qliYM_IUtfIn7WCejPapoZRSu7d_Z9p_dMIpQn4xtA_Kv22gJNN-ZzS-caEj/s320/P1100746.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next idea was to paint it. So I used white paint and used about 3 layers to cover up the original top of the table. I knew that wouldn't be the final top but a nice base to do something else. After I let that dry for two days, I decided it was time to make a decision on what to do with the table. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjnIBF9MU0zQommq7iAunANs-96BK603fPT6fMg3o4ud6POXDufRYg4bmwfKLv53Kkt67-ZkPJFtOWhT8YkKVEpLtpuinTXuQbzzml_kTYYibPVDu2iXwOUx4ZAXclq4ryz3igx7H-VnwZ/s1600/P1100747.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjnIBF9MU0zQommq7iAunANs-96BK603fPT6fMg3o4ud6POXDufRYg4bmwfKLv53Kkt67-ZkPJFtOWhT8YkKVEpLtpuinTXuQbzzml_kTYYibPVDu2iXwOUx4ZAXclq4ryz3igx7H-VnwZ/s320/P1100747.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have been collecting tissue paper of all kinds for a while and didn't know what to do with it so when I needed to cover up the paint, color tissue paper was the answer...Voila!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhScCFDMkmy4MMHOvL5oZ1iZEX-pzx3S5DoTbe2deaPyBd5homn8Toxn5TxYs59Qpk-ZbAKSY5TcnxMp3J6cmILSzY4oAvPOzrX6VhFN2hfLpV8GsLVl6hqYAdpOTQjSR6S5P-OX0N8mtEB/s1600/P1100754.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhScCFDMkmy4MMHOvL5oZ1iZEX-pzx3S5DoTbe2deaPyBd5homn8Toxn5TxYs59Qpk-ZbAKSY5TcnxMp3J6cmILSzY4oAvPOzrX6VhFN2hfLpV8GsLVl6hqYAdpOTQjSR6S5P-OX0N8mtEB/s320/P1100754.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yup. Lookin' good. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But that wasn't the end of it. I wanted something else on top and this is what I did: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0VKBD9M8caaRem9MfzNEZw91LRH7yFMyRFlNlymiU9H-1JedPgT-kVBdf-IwQO9KLoptU6x-2hhWCVlr2WbYMEADZmKcemPDOEBe6mVWP_35_JZWbeeIpG592oulQRPRO5x_knmV_bet-/s1600/P1100758.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0VKBD9M8caaRem9MfzNEZw91LRH7yFMyRFlNlymiU9H-1JedPgT-kVBdf-IwQO9KLoptU6x-2hhWCVlr2WbYMEADZmKcemPDOEBe6mVWP_35_JZWbeeIpG592oulQRPRO5x_knmV_bet-/s320/P1100758.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yes, a McCalls pattern!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After a five layers of Polyurethane, we come to this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So there you have it. My new craft table. When I finally finish rearranging my living room to my liking, this will be my primary table for doing work. It is durable, big, and sturdy. For now, it will be a good place to put my stuff as I organize. Oh, the final note is that the plastic guard was originally a dingy, beat up black...now it is Sage by Krylon. Lookin' GOOD!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I enjoy these kinds of projects. I should do them more often. Too bad I live in a shoe box, there is no room for more furniture projects. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Enjoy the picture and let me know what you think of my newest project. </div>

Emma 2 and a friend from church, we'll call her "Noel", have come up with a flower that can be made easily and quickly. It is made out of construction paper and tape.<br />
Emma 2 and Noel have been friends for a while now and both are budding artists. Emma 2 loves to paint, sew, and do general paper crafts like me. Noel likes to paint and do paper crafts as well. Emma 2 told me that she and Noel are starting a craft club and are currently saving up money to buy artist canvas to paint on. I think they hope for this club to become lucrative one day. I have high hopes for them.<br />
Now on to the paper flower. I believe it is a tulip of sorts.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBiDymSy041VLP0Xh8M9BOropyo09fl4O8CTd1GIrewhZY0w__KN2VO2_27fSv5PhvSBc_dL18Bt404vPSYCX2geTG7J-WHvWQp0Yce-QSZGZtE6HvW_u1HFhqXZZduViAuFKbiUYZJ8Mq/s1600/P1090773.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBiDymSy041VLP0Xh8M9BOropyo09fl4O8CTd1GIrewhZY0w__KN2VO2_27fSv5PhvSBc_dL18Bt404vPSYCX2geTG7J-WHvWQp0Yce-QSZGZtE6HvW_u1HFhqXZZduViAuFKbiUYZJ8Mq/s320/P1090773.jpg" width="201" /></a></div>
Per Emma 2's request, here are the step-by-step instructions for making the flower:<br />
1) you will need two pieces on construction paper and tape. One piece of paper should be green for the stem.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4NJ9krCv3tbPm3_7l-vrAtmNciWS22eNthJdE6hjst01kPDfwBxEXx3CmZIqa4LSVvx5_LuUzzw0kCYWBZ9bcBKngRHVrJGIhHh24FDvlxz-MFvAmFmOAhWrx35ALf_giN_kLoJsShVtO/s1600/P1090762.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4NJ9krCv3tbPm3_7l-vrAtmNciWS22eNthJdE6hjst01kPDfwBxEXx3CmZIqa4LSVvx5_LuUzzw0kCYWBZ9bcBKngRHVrJGIhHh24FDvlxz-MFvAmFmOAhWrx35ALf_giN_kLoJsShVtO/s200/P1090762.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
2) Roll the green paper, starting on the long side of the paper. Tape the paper in place. Set aside.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0rxZvk1rn7hbaXR6SkPw89uMxpMnoz17HBPuYHvHRreDcEUvUHrUFkFeHhObbdXbLK2nJ94dr3EwUeOqESXIM2_sFURFu9paRlOp3YxV_xNY3NkbLd1YUrh-XLYAFJzYzDGL9X7V7Pg3T/s1600/P1090763.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0rxZvk1rn7hbaXR6SkPw89uMxpMnoz17HBPuYHvHRreDcEUvUHrUFkFeHhObbdXbLK2nJ94dr3EwUeOqESXIM2_sFURFu9paRlOp3YxV_xNY3NkbLd1YUrh-XLYAFJzYzDGL9X7V7Pg3T/s200/P1090763.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>

Make lots and place in a vase. Notice that some of Emma 2's flowers have cut edges, that is to add interest to the flower petals.<br />
Emma 2 chose to make a vase out of a plastic bottle and construction paper.<br />

So there you have it. The first official project of Emma 2.<br />

(My words paraphrasing the bible.)<br />
I found inspiration in that passage (Matthew 6:28-29) and made this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2ugYsZNAdYGFtPildZVyRZrOedquM3iMTCTE-H-Nu-Im8swqLluRTnvCnXdkWi9B0HFEuu_6N_3qilCkEhDGPEtg0iyp0mDdSX0FVTBH3aky6F6tP5EPpPtVn5whahZ_YFyMFinIktoZY/s1600/P1090145.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2ugYsZNAdYGFtPildZVyRZrOedquM3iMTCTE-H-Nu-Im8swqLluRTnvCnXdkWi9B0HFEuu_6N_3qilCkEhDGPEtg0iyp0mDdSX0FVTBH3aky6F6tP5EPpPtVn5whahZ_YFyMFinIktoZY/s640/P1090145.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Matt 6:28b-29 (NIV) See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.</b></span><br />
<br />
Flowers in nature are so beautiful. I don't think I could ever truly duplicate them but I tried.<br />
This is what I did:<br />
<br />
1. Shopped at Hobby Lobby where they had some pre-printed plaques on clearance.<br />
2. Make fabric "<a href="http://www.clover-usa.com/products/453736?&n=0&va=t">Yo-Yos</a>" with different fabrics (I used lots of scrap fabric, some of the ones you see in the picture are actually from dresses/shirts that Mom made me and my sister when we were young).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyIJUjW-vxqPAJ1IiVESnkpJJKQfocvIrBm_EAV9OBDtnXc4TKQD7fjpShyphenhyphenUF8h4xpCvwDIs1KmPBBJ7jDsS_czusm2ajhijLJaT9SGMn7kqSiFFRsGIMvBheoNWFQvlvVVbhnDmR216JV/s1600/yo-yos.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyIJUjW-vxqPAJ1IiVESnkpJJKQfocvIrBm_EAV9OBDtnXc4TKQD7fjpShyphenhyphenUF8h4xpCvwDIs1KmPBBJ7jDsS_czusm2ajhijLJaT9SGMn7kqSiFFRsGIMvBheoNWFQvlvVVbhnDmR216JV/s400/yo-yos.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
3. Mod Podge paper on the board as desired. (I first thought of using paint but it didn't work out too well).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5lns6J-5fVe9Nc8bsRpLE14hZrlIvb12GKQ8H2H53dQbXH28vPTWqB2jjiQV94A04VOreBU9DwoVeuwhTJytBt4JOJRvZZsJslJJZe1uA4OK14C8axoD_CLcgtkcjpS_sxZJPDddRZIMQ/s1600/P1090142.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5lns6J-5fVe9Nc8bsRpLE14hZrlIvb12GKQ8H2H53dQbXH28vPTWqB2jjiQV94A04VOreBU9DwoVeuwhTJytBt4JOJRvZZsJslJJZe1uA4OK14C8axoD_CLcgtkcjpS_sxZJPDddRZIMQ/s400/P1090142.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
**NOTE: I am bad about taking pictures during the process...you are lucky to get the picture above!<br />
<br />
4. Once dry, paint the paper to separate sky from grass. Let dry.<br />
5. Tear out or cute out flower stems and flowers. Distress the stems and leafs as desired.<br />
6. Once I figured out where I wanted the flowers, I Mod Podged the stems and leafs into place.<br />
7. For the Bible verse, I used letter stickers.<br />
8. Before attaching the flowers, I covered the plaque with Mod Podge for protection.<br />
9. Finally, I attached the Yo-Yos with Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue where desired.<br />
<br />
And there you have it...<br />
As my friend, Brian, used to say "done and done". :)<br />

I have never been able to bring myself to buy it because I just really, really, really didn't want to spend the money. So a couple of months ago, I saw on the <a href="http://jennibelliestudio.blogspot.com/">Jennibellie </a>blog, that she made her own and I was <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ces9Z_jMakM&feature=plcp&context=C416ffceVDvjVQa1PpcFMZwOJ7fdmfkRTREULfLCvLa5mwBIYqA6A=">INSPIRED</a>! I decided to make my own but I didn't want to make multiple covers for multiple books. I have canvas, paint, a sewing machine, buttons, and scissors...need I say more?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizpBc0oORbYAnuKo7o6LRomPsISMUNvi3xSyGwMECtLE_ffITlpYs_emo51XLtzNL828rA6OddsEK80iNJHcyOo2MDtNSxke2Zx-f2sRJAZuGheUFQGrvxqTGhILQYoGCNegSYzYfDF_K5/s1600/P1090006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizpBc0oORbYAnuKo7o6LRomPsISMUNvi3xSyGwMECtLE_ffITlpYs_emo51XLtzNL828rA6OddsEK80iNJHcyOo2MDtNSxke2Zx-f2sRJAZuGheUFQGrvxqTGhILQYoGCNegSYzYfDF_K5/s320/P1090006.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used pinking sheers to cut the canvas then sewed around the perimiter to make sure it wouldn't fray. The background is actually spray mist - the green is from Ditto (bought at Michael's) and the blue is Maya Mists in Blue Raspberry Metallic Mist. The buttons are from Wal-Mart, brand called Blumenthal Lansing Co.. Oh and the pen is an official SMASH* pen. </div>

I haven't taken pictures of the inside yet but it is papers from my collection of patterned paper. When I start using it, I will take pictures.<br />
<br />
I have also been working on flowers. Not the fabric ones seen on my junk journal but paper ones that are now adorning my bedroom. They are adorable!<br />

P.S. Though I live in a desert, I SAW humidity today. Yes, that's right...I SAW HUMIDITY!!! Doesn't happen often. In fact, in the 9 years I have lived here, I have never seen humidity in the air. Here's a picture of it:<br />

I assume it means wooden fences to keep you separate from your neighbors. I have lived mostly in houses with chain-link fences so I don't think that saying counted for me. Being an apartment dweller for over 10 years now, I don't have fences of any kind.<br />
I mention fences because I made one. A little one. Paper and paint. The fence couldn't keep my dog, Frankie, in for even a second...but that is because the fence is about 5 inches tall and 16 inches long. Since pictures are worth a thousand words, I will just show you pictures.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFdGFNQRIY5eOhmkU6flUqaUKigKLBuKm5kjrp_zpIwA4qPmBvNiEEnrMDTJNITVq93sLWpJxY_OIvl2PerHM18HTI2cEzuLVybGqE7c9gTIZFlHUTWnfIBdph-eO2a9HlBQLUZLe1Tb3a/s1600/P1080979.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFdGFNQRIY5eOhmkU6flUqaUKigKLBuKm5kjrp_zpIwA4qPmBvNiEEnrMDTJNITVq93sLWpJxY_OIvl2PerHM18HTI2cEzuLVybGqE7c9gTIZFlHUTWnfIBdph-eO2a9HlBQLUZLe1Tb3a/s640/P1080979.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The canvases I used are 8x8 inches but the fence is longer so they look like long canvases.<br />
The back ground is papered napkins that were on clearance. I separated the layers and used the thin top layer with all the colors and Mod Podged them on (exactly what I did for the chalkboard frame in the previous post). Once that dried, I tore papers for the tree and the flowers. I didn't use any punches for those so they are all different sizes.<br />
The fence was my favorite part. I have a <a href="http://www.michaels.com/Garden-Trellis-Edger-Punch/sb2217,default,pd.html?start=63&cgid=products-scrapbooking-marthastewartcrafts-punches">trellis punch from Martha Stewart</a> that I used to punch the top part of the fence. Then I cut a bunch of strips of plain white paper, distressed the edges, and painted the same color as the trellis. It turned out great! I hot glued the two canvases together so they will stay together. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpQX4IxFuJH6ZLgHIfWgiP1Qy1_tqmeVK5ZLQRH1I9f6dEkgzlp_hjdFERDQBUH7_4AUTj-Y92wpiLYwPHUn-QyswgLKKfJF4Ma2b3zSwA_HYJHXUxlyME7dgr4ur3bAicrUmMHYNCMPjv/s1600/P1080981.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpQX4IxFuJH6ZLgHIfWgiP1Qy1_tqmeVK5ZLQRH1I9f6dEkgzlp_hjdFERDQBUH7_4AUTj-Y92wpiLYwPHUn-QyswgLKKfJF4Ma2b3zSwA_HYJHXUxlyME7dgr4ur3bAicrUmMHYNCMPjv/s320/P1080981.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

Those don't exist much in classrooms anymore because teachers have become allergic to chalk dust. That is very sad to me because as much as I enjoy a whiteboard, chalkboards are the BOMB DIGITY!<br />
Another reason I love chalkboards is that when I was a kid, I dreamed of being a teacher who could use a chalkboard. I never did become a teacher but now I have my chalk board!<br />
So to reconnect with my childhood, I made myself a chalkboard. I found some awesome paint by FolkArt that is "Chalkboard Paint" and I LOVE IT!!! (I try not to love inanimate objects but I have to love it...I just do!)<br />
I had this paint for months without using it because I just couldn't find the right project to make. Then I pushed myself to focus on making something. I took a trip to Hobby Lobby and found exactly what I wanted and it turned out PERFECT!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKxyQPiBVe4WssuqE2o4piHeNpSfuSzphJuGZmi9sSTa_U8lPuxgekegIO_CQ7uq3MSBpWbTTvuNhurTQFPm_K76hyphenhyphenQiPl79Fq77AhVs6-S02NyjYFBlL_PLzKAEgowg40nuAkpSyEB5rG/s1600/P1080957.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKxyQPiBVe4WssuqE2o4piHeNpSfuSzphJuGZmi9sSTa_U8lPuxgekegIO_CQ7uq3MSBpWbTTvuNhurTQFPm_K76hyphenhyphenQiPl79Fq77AhVs6-S02NyjYFBlL_PLzKAEgowg40nuAkpSyEB5rG/s640/P1080957.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
The chalkboard size is 11x14 and it is actually an <a href="http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/gessoed-masonite-board-504118/">Ampersand Gessoed Masonite Board</a>! It is a type of canvas, great for painting...No, really! CANVAS! It is amazing stuff and perfect for this project.<br />
The frame is just your basic wood frame for an 11x14 canvas. I used paper napkins and Mod Podge to decorate the frame. I didn't paint all those polka-dots...I am not that talented. The napkins worked out great! It gave lots texture and added that flair that I like.<br />
See the flowers? I finally figured out how to make the paper rolled flowers. And I really enjoyed making them. The papers are from lots of paper packs, sorry for not having the exact names.<br />
Here are some close ups:<br />

So there you have it...my childhood revisited. I have it hanging on my living room wall right now using it as a countdown calendar for my big test coming up at work. I so enjoy writing on a chalkboard and think it will be a well used addition to my house. One point of future addition: I will be making some sort of chalk holder and I have a terrific idea in mind. I just need to put it off until after the big test is done on July 12th.<br />
Thanks for stopping by, hope you enjoyed my walk-down-memory-lane, and leave a comment so I know you came by!<br />

These are picture boards that I made are made out of back-stapled canvases from Michael's, orange polka-dot napkins, Mod Podge, purple ribbon, and buttons. I did poke holes through the canvas to attach some buttons with waxed-linen thread and Aleena's Clear Gel Tacky Glue for the other buttons. I haven't added any pictures to the boards yet but this is just day one of their existence. I will probably take those boards to work and put them on my desk to enjoy them there. We'll see how that works.<br />

I find inspiration everywhere. I don't always know how to turn that inspiration into something real but this time I did. I have tried for a long time to make those paper rolled flowers but never was able to make any. Then I tried to make them again...and this time, IT WORKED!!! The flowers I originally made for this project ended up being too big so I used those on another project and made small ones for this project. </div>

My dear friend, Gina Maria Louisa Rita*, bought a house over a year ago and has on several occasions invited me to her house but things haven't worked out for me to get there. Then it came to my attention that I had not made a "house warming" present for Gina so I made this: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg06bL4sM4uNKySuTXb9-U8IcL-s53fR1nnerpD7__V6pjz20IeI-sjiT5KkpOMUErAe0qNMppUkfwn9JhcjEnRcID3JhiasgIfPtO-4B-kPMdZ0Aa5BHQThQmi85zB4HoUzuJ_uo2zSsN3/s1600/P1080933.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg06bL4sM4uNKySuTXb9-U8IcL-s53fR1nnerpD7__V6pjz20IeI-sjiT5KkpOMUErAe0qNMppUkfwn9JhcjEnRcID3JhiasgIfPtO-4B-kPMdZ0Aa5BHQThQmi85zB4HoUzuJ_uo2zSsN3/s400/P1080933.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The canvas is 8x8, or was it 10x10...can't remember now. The color is a combination of spray mists. The green is Maya Road Lime Metallic Mist mixed with Maya Road Pearl Metallic Mist. The blue is Ditto Glimmer Spray in a deep blue color (no name provided). Most of the papers for the flowers are from 6x6 paper packs that I have but don't remember who they are. I am so sorry for not knowing that. but they are all really cute paper. The letters are BasicGrey Dark Chocolate Chip Micro-Chip Stickers. One of the reasons the final version is so shinny is because I used a spray fixative as the final coat. Since Maya Road Mists are not waterproof, I thought it might help to have a fixative on it. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Before it was finished, I added some glitter glue to the center of the flowers. Honestly, if I did this again, I would not add the glitter glue. I didn't really like how it turned out. The green and purple glitter glue is from Studio G (Michael's Dollar bins) and the black is Black Diamond Stickles.<br />
Gina's reaction was WONDERFUL! I actually love having her look at my crafts because she ALWAYS loves everything I make. It really gives me an ego boost when Gina reacts the way she does. She is also a hugger! She has the best hugs and they are so strong, I feel like my head could pop off at any second! :)<br />
Gina said she will take picture of the canvas's when she puts them up so I will post on here when she does.<br />
<br />
Enjoy and I will catch you later!<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">My best friend, whom I call "Chickadee", got married on May 19th. She is such a wonderful person and am so very thankful that God put her in my life. Mr. & Mrs. Chickadee also just bought a house so what I made for them should fit right in. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Chickadee likes gnomes and I am sure these gnomes will like hanging on the wall in her new home. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh78OHHEmcnEQIYPhwQlOVeXWjyu-yxPz3P7ELqQd4WxGdeeEi73mtUGW05-vcOLPw1PbzODmmSv2bjSkF7JPsRRH-No11ChinBDGkWYJqRK0Ihq7DNMuHyWuZGeFD-RGFCXlYvrUAmvoMu/s1600/P1080893.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="276" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh78OHHEmcnEQIYPhwQlOVeXWjyu-yxPz3P7ELqQd4WxGdeeEi73mtUGW05-vcOLPw1PbzODmmSv2bjSkF7JPsRRH-No11ChinBDGkWYJqRK0Ihq7DNMuHyWuZGeFD-RGFCXlYvrUAmvoMu/s640/P1080893.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I used three 6x6 deep canvases from my local craft store. I believe the brand is Artist's Loft. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I used an old Butterick clothing pattern and Mod Podge to prepare the canvas. Once dried, I painted the grass and sky. Before the paint dried, I wiped off as much of the thick paint as possible. I did this so that the pattern will show through the paint. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Next, I used the "<a href="https://www.thereshegoesclearstamps.com/store/my-little-friend.html">My Little Friend</a>"clear stamp set from There She Goes stamp company. The clouds and sun were painted on with <a href="http://www.michaels.com/Golden-Light-Molding-Paste/fa0861,default,pd.html?cgid=products-artsupplies-mediums%26fixatives-acrylic&start=2">Golden Molding Paste</a> mixed with paint. </span></div>

There is a lot of inspiration out there on the internet like <a href="http://homegrownhospitality.typepad.com/homegrown_hospitality/">this website</a> and <a href="http://www.christytomlinson.typepad.com/">this website</a>. Stephanie Ackerman and Christy Tomlison are very talented women and I have learned quite a bit from both of them.<br />
That brings me to my most recent creation:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh9AC6XxS0nlFxNGUL5JaMz19btMzu_7wV3EhVT83kmmsIc4dJEkr8rO-0poZl9-anPdWAqjPjWdhQaOGHH64G1Y7ulrEpEQbsr3jXbIx4CtvCHu2QJpYrACbMXKTb_OTvlJNmJM1b5VpS/s1600/P1080845.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh9AC6XxS0nlFxNGUL5JaMz19btMzu_7wV3EhVT83kmmsIc4dJEkr8rO-0poZl9-anPdWAqjPjWdhQaOGHH64G1Y7ulrEpEQbsr3jXbIx4CtvCHu2QJpYrACbMXKTb_OTvlJNmJM1b5VpS/s320/P1080845.JPG" width="319" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These wall art pieces are done on 12x12 painting canvas. I did not prepare the canvas in any unique way, just started Mod Podging old Butterick patterns on the canvas; then added a light layer of paint once the Mod Podge dried. The tree, flowers, and house are paper pieced on the canvas. The clouds and walkway on the cottage canvas are a mixture of paint and molding paste. SO MUCH FUN!!! I still have a few things to add to the cottage canvas so I will put a final picture up when I am done. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

A long time ago, I found a video on a now-defunked website called Scrapbook Lounge, how to make a mini-album out of a SINGLE paper bag. Yes, a single paper bag - not like the albums that use multiple paper bags. It is a really easy way to make an album. (video can be viewed <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idnYDVJzjCE">HERE</a>)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
***Unless you buy special paper bags from a crafting store that are acid free, I do not suggest putting real photos in the book. Print pictures on your home printer and you won't feel guilty when the photos start to fade.***</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my latest creation: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoG_uule_LlC8wjMXbMjsQdCAqF5TrQW0i7I8shB7qfVBWL2-hsjlACHxcxx-EVrqNLBmGO0JrxctbInpgG39aoQeyAYCYBQ8z7SwzbwX5Xc5-Zs2VopUBn87KtIzsM6DEJgiIn61s1_Bp/s1600/0523120720.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoG_uule_LlC8wjMXbMjsQdCAqF5TrQW0i7I8shB7qfVBWL2-hsjlACHxcxx-EVrqNLBmGO0JrxctbInpgG39aoQeyAYCYBQ8z7SwzbwX5Xc5-Zs2VopUBn87KtIzsM6DEJgiIn61s1_Bp/s320/0523120720.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This mini album incorporates two great ideas...One shown in the video link above through Scrapbook Lounge, and one shown in <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyi3Ve93We4&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL5D3F1BCA76C2681C">THIS</a> video by JenniBellie. In the JenniBellie video, she uses greeting cards but I used an oatmeal box recycled. It turned out GREAT!!! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And the binding below is a using the technique also from JenniBellie but with wax linen thread (not yarn like JenniBellie uses). I like wax linen thread. I bought it at a local scrapbook store (not a chain but a "mom-and-pop" store). You can also buy wax linen thread at www.clubscrap.com (that's where I first learned about it.)</div>

Okay, I am obsessed with reading craft blogs.<br />
That's where I get most of my craft ideas.<br />
And most of the time, the craft ideas turn out really great.<br />
This idea came from Cosmo Cricket. Click <a href="http://cosmocricket.typepad.com/cosmo_cricket/2012/05/diy-easy-gift-bag.html">HERE</a> to go to the blog post I got this idea from.<br />
<br />
Now onto my own gift bags. I made 2 for work. We had a salsa competition in honor of Cinco De Mayo. The first prize winners got the bags. Let me know what you think of the bags. Aren't they cute???<br />

I have. Quite recently. I am not going to say what the regret is except that I hurt my best friend and don't know how to fix it. My first instinct is to run away, hide from the people I hurt, and force myself to suffer alone. That would be sufficient punishment right? Wrong...If I run way, nothing will get fixed. So how do I fix it while facing my fear of confrontation? I always imagine the worst, even if it isn't that bad.<br />
So how do I make it right with my best friend?<br />
Pray.<br />
That's all I can figure out.<br />
Pray.<br />

Emma #2 is now 9-years-old and really into art stuff. Enjoy the post!***</em><br />
<br />
Emma #2 asked me to post an idea she would like to share with you. Until she is either old enough to post for herself or have her mommy or daddy help her, I will be posting for her. <br />
<br />
Emma #2 is a bright, funny, loving, caring, 8-year-old with really great ideas! I am hoping that by fostering those ideas here, she will become more creative. For privacy reasons, Emma #2's picture will not be shown on this website but her ideas sure will be. <br />
<br />
Supplies needed: <br />
Empty shoe box<br />
Paint<br />
Paint Brushes<br />
Paper plate (to put the paint on)<br />
Water<br />
Paper Towel<br />
News Paper (to protect the surface you will be working on)<br />
<br />
<u>Construction:</u><br />
Working on newspaper to protect your surface: <br />
1) Remove the lid from the shoe box, set the shoe box aside. <br />
2) In the lid of the shoe box, cut a hole. (Emma #1 recommends adults help with the cutting part.) Cut the hole no bigger than 1 inch from the sides of the lid. The idea is the lid will become a "window" into the shoe box. <br />
3) Place some white paint on your paper plate and add about 1/2 teaspoon of water, stir until completely mixed and paint the entire shoe box, inside and out. (by painting the shoe box with white paint, it will make it easier to add other colors to your shoe box without too much fading)<br />
4) Once the white paint has dried, paint the INSIDE of the both shoe box and the inside of the lid BLUE to represent water. **A lighter blue would probably work best. Set aside to dry. <br />
5) Once the blue paint dries, use other colors to paint the top of the lid and the outside of the shoe box as desired. Emma #1 also recommends painting some plants on the back and pebbles on the bottom. <br />
OPTIONAL: <em>to add dimension to the project you could draw and cut out fish bowl plants, glue in small stones as the gravel, and even add a little castle like you might see in a real fish tank. </em><br />
6) Take either cardboard or think paper (like cardstock), draw and color a fish on one side, cut and color a mirror image fish ton another piece of paper to be glued on the back side of the first fish. <br />
7) When both fishes are ready to be attached, take a piece of "magic strength" or clear thread, knot at one end and place between the fish with glue. Set aside to allow glue to dry. <br />
***<em>Make several fish of different shapes and sizes to add variety to your "fish bowl" shoe box. Emma #1 also suggests that you cut the thread to hang the fish at different lengths to make the "fish bowl" look more real. </em><br />
<br />
<u>Assembly:</u> <br />
<br />
When all your pieces are painted and decorated as desired (with GLITTER, per Emma #2), begin to put the fish bowl together. <br />
1) To attach the fish, place take on the loose end of the string and place on the "top" of the inside of the shoe box. Hang in the desired locations. Emma #2 suggested hanging a fish or two from the inside of the lid so the fish will look like it is close to the side of the fish bowl.<br />
2) Once all your fish and fish bowl are decorated as desired, place the lid back on the box, and set on the side to display your "fish bowl"!<br />
<br />
I will add some pictures later on when I have made one of my own. Until then, you can use your imagination. :)<br />

I shouldn't focus on that one day even though it was a day that changed my life forever. I try to focus on the good things...the positive things...the happy moments. <br />
Like the time Dad was a parent chaperon for my field trip to Mount Lemon near Tucson. My class was doing a science walk through the mountain and collecting things like owl "hair balls". We then went back to school and dissected the "hairball" to find mouse bones and other things that the owls eat then puke up. Gross but it was a trip I will never forget. <br />
Or I think on the time that Dad helped me build a shelf for my bedroom. It was when I was living at home and taking classes at a community college. Mom was working in a city 6 hours away so I was taking care of Dad at home. We would visit mom often but during the week it was just us. Dad and I spent a couple of days measuring, cutting, gluing, and screwing together a tall skinny shelf. I then shellacked it in a room with no ventilation (to keep the cats away from the shellac)...I now blame my lack of intelligence on fumes from the shellac. <br />
During the time mentioned above, I learned how to do some cooking but really I just winged it most of the time. Dad would eat anything and liked everything I made. If the Lord ever blesses me with a husband, I pray his taste buds are just like my dad’s!<br />
Another great memory of my Dad was always the road trips we took. Whether it was the whole family or just the two of us, Dad was the driver. Dad was a driving machine! He could drive from Flagstaff, Arizona to Champaign, Illinois in 26 hours WITH OUT sleep! He would stop for gas, coffee, and the bathroom...that was it. My dad was such a great driver, too. He knew how to handle most any scary situation and that's why I never had any problem sleeping in the car with Dad at the wheel. <br />
Dad wasn't just the best dad; he was also the best teacher. He was my 6th grade teacher! He had a great rapport with kids of all ages and could help them work out any school related problem. I remember him telling stories of two girls from his 5th or 6th grade class when he taught in Tuba City, Arizona. Rhonda Anderson and Karla Kikendahl. They would always react when Dad pretended to trip and I know I felt special when Karla invited me and my sister, Amanda, to her birthday party! Dad and Mom thought Karla was joking about having us at her party or that she and Rhonda would pick on us but that was not the intention at all! Karla had a massive doll collection and show Amanda and me all of her dolls. We just loved it! Rhonda and Karla were older than us so to have more mature girls like them ask us (I think I was 6 and Amanda was 7, or so) to attend a birthday party! WOW!!!<br />
These are the memories that keep me going. These are the memories that bring a smile to my face. <br />
The History Lesson I want you to get out of this blog is to always cherish your loved ones while you have them because we are not promised tomorrow. When they have passed away, all you have is your memories to cling to. Strike that! If you have Christ in your life, you have Christ to cling to...and the memories. <br />
<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I hope this blog is uplifting because it made me smile remembering my precious Daddy. <br />

How crazy is that!!!<br />
So take a read and know that I am now better, have survived my bad day, and survived plenty more bad days since then.<br />
The Lord God is wonderful and faithful even when I am not!<br />
Emma #1<br />
<br />
<br />
I had a bad day yesterday. <br />
Work was not fun.<br />
Spoke with "Chatty Cathy" for over 1 1/2 hours and said about 20 words...she filled the rest of the time.<br />
Spoke with "Mr. Grumpy" who said "I am not going to pay the fee"...Okay then.<br />
My shoes were soaking wet from the rain.<br />
My dog didn't want to walk outside.<br />
My apartment smelled like wet dog because I took him walking anyway. <br />
My <u>Jewel Quest II</u> computer game wouldn't work. <br />
Anything else? <br />
Nope, I think that's it. <br />
So yesterday was a bad day. <br />
I hope today is better. <br />
So far, so good.<br />
<br />

<br />
PS. the only redeeming factor of the day? RAIN!!!Emma Squared Designshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06959390876463079625noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1420300301433713340.post-79376487406127872912011-12-28T12:57:00.000-08:002011-12-28T12:57:14.070-08:00One little word...I like Ali Edwards. <br />
There are several reasons. <br />
1-Her initals are the same as the first two in my name: A & E<br />
2-We both spell Ali the same. <br />
3-She is super crafty and does inspiraring work!<br />
Ali does a "thing" every year (since 2007, I think) called "One Little Word" where she choses one word to live by in the coming year. You can check out her website by clicking <a href="http://aliedwards.com/2011/12/one-little-word-2012.html">here</a>. I decided to find my own little word that I can use as my 2012 theme. Well, actually, it turns out that I am using a phrase instead...I couldn't settle on just one word so I chose three: HEALTHY, WEALTHY, AND WISE. <br />
<br />
<strong>Healthy</strong>: I have never been good at eating right or exercising when I should. Because of that, I am facing the posibility of developing diabeties, having surgery, and making some major life changes that would have been avoided had I lifed a "healthy" life from the start. <br />
I decided to check out the official definition of "Healthy" and found on Merriam Webster's online dictionary that <a href="http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/healthy">healthy</a> means: <em>enjoying health and vigor of body, mind, or spirit. </em>I guess that means if it comes down to ONLY one work, healthy would do the trick. <br />
<br />
<strong>Wealthy</strong>: I didn't grow up in a wealthy family. We were even "well to do" and certainly no where close to "living within our means" but I grew up in a happy, loving, caring, christian family and I wouldn't change that for anything. Since I have been on my own (on and off since I went to college in 1996) I have learned how to build my debt and destroy my credit. It got so bad in the last six months that I even thought (for a very brief moment) that I might have to file for bankrupsy. But thank the LORD in Heaven that I finanlly reached out for help and He pointed me in the right direction! No bankrupsy and no more NSF fees! (NSF, for those of you lucky enough to not experience this, stands for Non-Sufficent Fund.) So now that I am learning how to make a budget and stick with it, I am learning that I make plenty of money to life off of and my financial stress level has decreased significantly! That doesn't mean that I have succeeded with "wealthy" but I am learning to control and manage the money GOD has allowed me to earn. It is God's money first anyway so I need to treat it like it is on loan to me. <br />
Sticking with the Merriam Webster's online dictionary theme, I found the definition for wealthy <a href="http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wealthy">here</a>: <em>having weath: very affluent, characterized by abundance.</em> So even "weathly" could the word of the year because I could have a wealth of health, a wealth of money, and a wealth of wisdom. <br />
<br />
Wise: I don't expect to be the next Albert Einstein this year so that is not the kind of wisdom I am hoping to gain. I am thinking for of <strong>spiritual wisdom</strong>. I searched on <a href="http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%201:1-7&version=NIV">Bible Gateway</a> for a verse or passage relating to the word "wise" and came up with Proverbs 1:1-7. (emphasis added is mine)<br />
The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:<br />
for gaining <strong><em>wisdom</em></strong> and <strong><em>instruction</em></strong>;<br />
for understanding words of insight;<br />
for receiving <strong><em>instruction in prudent behavior</em></strong>, <br />
doing what is right and just and fair;<br />
for giving prudence to those who are simple, <br />
knowledge and descretion to the young-<br />
let the <strong><em>wise listen and add to their learning</em></strong>, <br />
and let the <strong><em>discerning get guidence</em></strong> - <br />
for understanding proverbs and parables, <br />
the sayings and riddles of the <strong><em>wise</em></strong>. <br />
<strong><em>The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, </em></strong><br />
<em><strong> but fools despise wisdom and instruction.</strong> </em><br />
There were many other verses that came up for wise but when I read that, I knew that was what I wanted to focus on in 2012. <br />
For the official dictionary definition, <a href="http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wise">wise</a> is: a characterized by wisdom: marked by deep understanding, keen discernment, and a capcity for sound judgment. This word can also relate to health and wealth. <br />
<br />
So each word is interchangable and each word is independant of each other. That leaves me with a decision. Do I stick with "Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise" or go with "Heathly", "Weathly", or "Wise". Decision time!<br />
<br />
